Child labour is when children’s work takes over their childhood and it can harm the children physically and mentally. Around 215 million children worldwide that are between the ages of 5-17 are involved in child labour. 60% of the 215 million children work in agriculture. Child labour in agriculture is one of the most dangerous jobs to do as young children need to handle chemicals and large machines that can seriously harm them. The pie chart demonstrates how child labour in agriculture is the most common form of work which is quite devastating as it is one of the most dangerous types of work.
Child farmworkers often fall under three types of cases:
§ Those who work on their parents’ farm
§ Those who work on local farms part-time or during the summer to earn extra money.
§ Those who feel compelled to work out of economic necessity, often migrating alone or with their families from farm to farm.
