Why do children work?
Children have no choice but to work extremely hard to support their family. They have to work for very long hours and it deprives them of studying for school. Most of these children would rather be playing or receiving an education but they know that they have to work to keep their family alive so they do not complain.
What do organisations think?
Groups such as the UN (ILO), Amnesty, Fair trade and World Vision, with the help of some governments are trying to stop child labour around the world. They are trying to help children to re gain their childhood and helping them to get an education so they can break the cycle of poverty. They are also trying to protect the children from the dangers they are exposed to while working in agriculture – hazardous chemicals, machetes etc.
